‘Έπεσε η αυλαία του Διεθνούς Φεστιβάλ Ταινιών Μικρού Μήκους της Κύπρου το Σάββατο 22/10 στο Θέατρο ΡΙΑΛΤΟ, μετά από μια επιτυχημένη διοργάνωση 8 ημερών, που συγκέντρωσε ταινίες και κινηματογραφιστές απ’ όλο τον κόσμο καθώς και το ενδιαφέρον των φίλων των ταινιών μικρού μήκους.
Tο 1ο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Ταινιών Μικρού Μήκους που ήταν αφιερωμένο ως ελάχιστος φόρος τιμής, στο μεγάλο συμπατριώτη μας σκηνοθέτη Μιχάλη Κακογιάννη, περιλάμβανε 57 ταινίες από 37 χώρες στο διαγωνιστικό πρόγραμμα του, 5 παράλληλα προγράμματα, εργαστήρια, την εμπλοκή των φοιτητών ως κινηματογραφιστές και κοινό και live μουσική στις τελετές έναρξης και λήξης.

Η Kριτική Eπιτροπή επισημαίνει ότι το φεστιβάλ πρόσφερε ένα πλούσιο και συναρπαστικό πρόγραμμα.
«H σύνθεση του προγράμματος από τους καλλιτεχνικούς διευθυντές του φεστιβάλ Αλεξία Roider και Ιωακείμ Μυλωνά είχε ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον. Παράλληλα με τις ταινίες μυθοπλασίας και ντοκιμαντέρ, είχαμε την ευκαιρία να δούμε ταινίες με σημαντικό περιεχόμενο. Επίσης θεωρούμε σημαντικό ότι γνωρίσαμε την δουλειά κινηματογραφιστών οι οποίοι επιλέγουν να αφηγηθούν προσωπικές θεματικές με ένα ιδιαίτερο ποιητικό τρόπο.»

Πολύ επιτυχημένα η Κριτική Επιτροπή καταλήγει  σε μια σύντομη αλλά ουσιαστική παράθεση των στόχων ενός καλού διεθνούς φεστιβάλ, στόχοι που ταυτίζονται πλήρως με το όραμα των διοργανωτών του 1ου Διεθνούς Φεστιβάλ Ταινιών Μικρού Μήκους
«Θεωρούμε ότι είναι ιδιαίτερα σημαντικό για τους κινηματογραφιστές να παρουσιάζουν τις ταινίες τους σε Φεστιβάλ και να έχουν  τη δυνατότητα να δούνε την δουλειά άλλων καθώς και να ανταλλάξουν ιδέες και εμπειρίες με κινηματογραφιστές από διαφορετικές εθνικότητες και πολιτισμούς. Αυτός θα πρέπει να είναι ο στόχος ενός καλού διεθνές φεστιβάλ.»

Το 1ο Βραβείο Καλύτερης Ταινίας απέσπασε η ταινία Garagouz του Abdenour Zahzah από την Αλγερία ως ...μια εξαιρετική, ανθρώπινη ιστορία στην σύγχρονη Αλγερία, δοσμένη μέσα απ’ το ταξίδι ενός πατέρα και γιου. Κοινωνικά μηνύματα θίγονται επιτυχώς με καλλιτεχνική συνέπεια και δημιουργικό όραμα. Όλα τα στοιχεία που την συνθέτουν: ερμηνείες, κινηματογράφηση, ήχος και σκηνοθεσία υπηρετούν αριστοτεχνικά τη δραματουργία. Μια ταινία γεμάτη ευαισθησία, απλότητα, τόλμη και ελπίδα(Σκεπτικό Κριτικής Επιτροπής)

Το 2ο Βραβείο Καλύτερης Ταινίας κέρδισε η τανία Conversation Piece του Joe Tummer από το Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο που η Κριτική Επιτροπή χαρακτήρισε ... πρωτότυπη, με πηγαίο και έξυπνο χιούμορ, καλές ερμηνείες και γρήγορο αφηγηματικό ρυθμό. Μια κωμωδία που μας έκανε να γελάσουμε...

Το Βραβείο Σκηνοθεσίας πήρε η ταινία Bread for Bird της Aleksandra Strelyanaya από την Ρωσία. Στην ανακοίνωση της η Κριτική Επιτροπή μίλησε για ... ένα ελκυστικά ασυνήθιστο τρόπο αφήγησης μιας οικογενειακής ιστορίας. ... Ένας καμβάς όμορφων χρωμάτων και εικόνων που συνθέτουν μια ταινία γεμάτη ζεστασιά με πολλαπλά νοήματα, συμπλήρωσε το μέλος της Επιτροπής κ. Θοδωρής Παπαδουλάκης που ανακοίνωσε τον νικητή.

Ο κ. Fabrizio Ferrari ανακοίνωσε το Βραβείο Ντοκιμαντέρ που απέσπασε η ταινία Machine Man των Alfonso Mome & Roser Corella από την Ισπανία αναφέροντας ότι αυτό το Ντοκιμαντέρ, χρησιμοποιώντας ευαίσθητες και ποιητικές εικόνες πραγματεύεται τις σκληρές συνθήκες χειρωνακτικής εργασίας στο Μπαγκλαντές..- Ένα σημαντικό θέμα δοσμένο με απλότητα και ουσία...

Το 1ο Βραβείο Καλύτερης Κυπριακής Ταινίας Μικρού Μήκους του Υπουργείου Παιδείας και Πολιτισμού απονεμήθηκε στην ταινία Στάχυα του Σιάμον Φαρμακά. Σύμφωνα με την Κριτική Επιτροπή ... Μια ταινία στην οποία το περιεχόμενο και η κινηματογραφική γλώσσα συνδυάζονται αρμονικά. Μια πολύ καλή δραματουργική προσέγγιση μιας δυνατής ιστορίας. Ένα δείγμα δουλειάς που προδιαγράφει ένα ελπιδοφόρο μέλλον για το δημιουργό της.

Το 2ο Βραβείο Καλύτερης Ταινίας του Υπουργείου Παιδείας και Πολιτισμού απέσπασε η ταινία «11.50» του Στυλιανού Κωνσταντίνου που όπως αναφέρει η Επιτροπή είναι ... ένα καλό παράδειγμα μιας μικρού μήκους , όπου χωρίς διαλόγους και σ’ ένα λιτό περιβάλλον καταφέρνει να κρατήσει αμείωτη την προσοχή μας. Τεχνικά άρτια με προσεγμένη κινηματογράφηση, καλό ήχο και μια δυνατή ερμηνεία.

Πέρα από τα 6 κύρια βραβεία, δόθηκαν 13 μνείες κινουμένων σχεδίων, καλύτερου ανδρικού & γυναικείου ρόλου, καλύτερης παραγωγής, σχεδιασμού ήχου, καλλιτεχνικής διεύθυνσης, μουσικής, φωτογραφίας, σεναρίου και καλύτερης ποιητικής ταινίας καθώς επίσης το βραβείο φοιτητών, το Βραβείο Σκηνοθεσίας Ντίνου Κατσουρίδη και το Βραβείο Φωτογραφίας KODAK Cinelabs.

Κατά την τελετή λήξης του Φεστιβάλ προβλήθηκε ένα βίντεο με χαρακτηριστικά στιγμιότυπα του Φεστιβάλ, μεταφέροντας τη φεστιβαλική ατμόσφαιρα που επικρατούσε στη διάρκεια του. Μετά την προβολή και πάλι της καλύτερης ταινίας ολοκληρώθηκε το επίσημο φεστιβάλ, δίνοντας τη θέση του στο τελικό πάρτι με το James Adams Quartet σε ρυθμούς jazzed up funk.

The curtain falls on the 1st International Short Film Festival of Cyprus

After a successful eight-day run, the curtain fell on the International Short Film Festival of Cyprus on Saturday, October 22, at Rialto Theatre. The Festival hosted films and filmmakers from around the world and attracted the interest of short film lovers.

The first International Short Film Festival of Cyprus was dedicated to our fellow countryman and great director Michael Cacoyiannis and included 57 films from 37 countries in its competitive program, 5 parallel events, workshops, students participating as filmmakers and audience, and live music at both the Opening and Closing Ceremony.

The Jury notes that the Festival has offered a rich and fascinating program.

“The development of the program by the Festival’s Artistic Directors, Alexia Roider and Ioakim Mylonas, was extremely interesting. In addition to fiction films and documentaries, we had the opportunity to watch films with important content. We also value our acquaintance with the work of filmmakers who opt to narrate personal themes in a particularly poetic manner.”

The Jury successfully concludes with a brief, yet critical, report of the aims that a good international festival should have and which completely match those of the organizers’ vision for the 1st International Short Film Festival of Cyprus.

“We believe that it is very important for filmmakers to showcase their films in festivals and to have the opportunity to watch the work of others, as well as to exchange ideas and experiences with filmmakers of different nationalities and cultures. This should be the purpose of a good international festival.”

The 1st Prize for the Best Short Film was awarded to Garagouz by Abdenour Zahzah from Algeria, “...an excellent story of life in contemporary Algeria, told through the journey of a father and son.  Social issues are subtly addressed combined with a persistence of creative vision. All elements, performance, cinematography, sound, directing beautifully serve this story. Full of emotional truth, it has strong moments of lightness, jeopardy and hope”. (Jury Rationale)

The 2nd Prize for Best Short Film was awarded to Conversation Piece by Joe Tummer from the United Kingdom. The film was described by the Jury as “…original, with great sense of humour, good performance and pace -  it made us laugh...”.

The Best Director Award was given to Bread for Bird by Aleksandra Strelyanaya from Russia. The Jury in their announcement spoke of “…a beautiful and unusual way to make a family history film with finely judged images and colors...” Mr. Thodoris Papadoulakis, the member of the Jury who announced the winner, said that the film was “ ...Full of warmth and layers of meaning”.

Mr. Fabrizio Ferrari presented the Documentary Award to Machine Man by Alfonso Mome & Roser Corella from Spain, explaining that “this documentary uses moving and poetic images to talk about the working conditions of manual labor in Bangladesh... - an important subject simply and effectively told...”.

The 1st Best Cypriot Film Award of the Ministry of Education and Culture was given to Stahia by Simon Farmakas. According to the Jury, it is “…a film in which form and content work harmoniously. A strong cinematic approach of a story well expressed.  A work that shows potential and a film mind at work...”.

The 2nd Best Cypriot Film Award of the Ministry of Education and Culture was given to 11.50 by Stylianos Konstantinou. The Jury describes the film as “…a good example of an intriguing short film that successfully manages without dialogue in a minimal setting to hold our attention.  With a strong central performance, good lighting, camera work and sound”.

In addition to the 6 main awards, the awards included 13 special mentions for Best Animation, Best Male Actor and Female Actress, Best Production, Best Sound Design, Best Music, Best Cinematography, Best Screenplay, Best Poetic Film, as well as a Students’ Prize, the Dinos Katsouridis Best Direction Award and the KODAK Cinelabs Best Cinematography Award.

During the Festival’s Closing Ceremony, there was a screening a video of the highlights of the Festival, which illustrated the celebratory atmosphere that marked the festival week. After the screening of the winning film, the official Festival ended with a closing party, with James Adams Quartet in jazzed up funk music.

Έχοντας μέχρι τώρα διανύσει τη μισή του πορεία , πετυχαίνοντας να εξελιχθεί σε μια πολύχρωμη γιορτή των ταινιών μικρού μήκους με εκατοντάδες θεατές, το φεστιβάλ πλησιάζει σιγά- σιγά στο τέλος του και στην τελετή λήξης, η οποία θα πραγματοποιηθεί το βράδυ του Σαββάτου στις  22/10/2011.
Η τελετή θ΄αρχίσει  στις 19.00 στο θέατρο ΡΙΑΛΤΟ με τις προβολές 10 ταινιών που συμμετέχουν στο διαγωνισμό δημιουργίας ταινίας μικρού μήκους “Sn’R” (Shoot & Run) το οποίο αποτελεί πρωτοβουλία του ΤΕΠΑΚ και φιλοξενείται από το φεστιβάλ. Η βραδιά θα συνεχισθεί  με την προβολή ταινίας κινουμένων σχεδίων που έγινε από παιδιά με την μέθοδο της χαρακτικής. Το θέμα αυτό αναπτύχθηκε και σε παιδικό εργαστήρι στο πλαίσιο του φεστιβάλ κάτω από τη διεύθυνση του  χαράκτη Ευκλείδη Παπαδόπουλου.

Στις 20:30  θα ξεκινήσει η τελετή βράβευσης των ταινιών που διακρίθηκαν από την Κριτική Επιτροπή, η οποία αποτελείται από διεθνείς προσωπικότητες και επαγγελματίες του χώρου του κινηματογράφου. Κατά τη διάρκεια της απονομής,  ένα ολιγόλεπτο φιλμάκι θα θυμίζει στους παρευρισκόμενους όλα όσα διαδραματίστηκαν κατά τη βδομάδα του φεστιβάλ.

Η βραδιά θα ολοκληρωθεί με ζωντανή μουσική σε ρυθμoύς jazzed up funk από τους James Adams, Mike Michael, Λευτέρη Μουμτζή και Στέλιο Ξυδιά , οι οποίοι θα αποχαιρετήσουν μαζί μας το 1ο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Ταινιών Μικρού Μήκους στο  Ενημερωτικό Κέντρο ( Art Studio 55) .

The International Short Film Festival of Cyprus
closes on Saturday, October 22

Being now halfway through its one-week run and having succeeded to grow into a colourful short film feast with hundreds of viewers, the ISFFC is soon coming to an end with a Closing Ceremony that will be held on Saturday, October 22.
The Ceremony will begin at 19:00 at Rialto Theatre with the screenings of the 10 films that participated in the short film contest “S n’ R” (Shoot & Run), an initiative of the Cyprus University of Technology, hosted by the ISFFC. The evening will continue with the screening of an animated film that was made by children with the use of printmaking techniques. This subject was developed at a children workshop, which was organized within the framework of the ISFFC, under the supervision of printmaker Efklides Papadopoulos.
At the Awards Ceremony at 20:30, the winning films, which were selected by an international Jury of film industry professionals, will be announced. During the Ceremony, a short film will remind the attendants of everything that happened throughout the Festival’s week.
James Adams, Mike Michael, Lefteris Moumtzis and Stelios Xydias will close the evening with jazzed up funk music, as we all say farewell to the 1st International Short Film Festival of Cyprus at the Information Centre Art Studio 55.

Triumphantly and under the sounds of the music played by the Limassol Municipal Band, the curtain has risen for the International Short Film Festival of Cyprus. In front of Rialto Theatre, hundreds of viewers welcomed the Band and subsequently accompanied it inside for the Opening Ceremony. The brief documentary by Nounou Skaltsa Alexopoulou evoked emotion in the audience, as it was curated by Michael Cacoyiannis to the memory of whom this year’s Festival is dedicated. The Opening Ceremony was watched by members of the family of Michael Cacoyiannis, representatives of the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture, directors, filmmakers and friends of short films.

Following the presentation of the Jury by the Artistic Directors, the Festival was officially inaugurated by the Mayor of Limassol and the competitive program started with an excellent selection of films from Cyprus, Greece, Denmark, Spain, Portugal and Poland, which was warmly applauded.
The night ended with an acoustic performance by Fivos Delivorias, who had his audience mesmerized at the crowded Information Centre next to the theatre.

The Festival has been extremely successful this far and promises to continue to deliver a rich and diverse program until the 22nd of October. More that 100 films from all over the world and night screenings under the stars with films from Paris, Africa and the Middle East. A special tribute to the Cypriot films of yesterday and the best animated films of the past 10 years. A “Making Cinema for Television” masterclass by director Thodoris Papadoulakis and actor Stelios Mainas on the 21st of October, 18:00, at the Information Centre (Art Studio 55).
