Limassol is the second largest city in Cyprus, located in the Acrotiri Bay, on the island's southern coast and has experienced great development in the last years. Today, Limassol has become one of the most important tourism, trade and service-providing centres in the wider geographical area. The city is also renowned for its long cultural tradition. Visitors can enjoy a wide spectrum of activities, and sites; Museums, archaeological sites and medieval monuments to name a few. Luxurious hotels, high quality restaurants and night clubs thrive along the seaside road, as well as in the old city. The beaches are a mixture of sand and pebbles, while in the vicinity of the city are Curium Beach, Lady's Mile Beach and Pissouri Bay. In the old town of Limassol, visitors can enjoy shopping and visit unique bars and tavernas to experience the excellent Cypriot cuisine. Limassol has an abundantly wealthy cultural activity throughout the whole year. The Wine Festival takes place at the end of the Summer each year, while at the Limassolian Carnival celebrations mark the beginning of Spring each year. Several film, dance and documentary festivals take place thoughout the year in Limassol.
