O Roy Andersson αποτελεί ένα μεγάλο κεφάλαιο στο ευρωπαϊκό σινεμά, γνωστός κυρίως για την «Τριλογία των Ζωντανών» που αποτελείται από τις ταινίες Songs from the Second Floor, You, the Living και A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence με την τελευταία να κερδίζει τον Χρυσό Λέοντα στο Φεστιβάλ Βενετίας. Η αμέσως επόμενη του ταινία About Endlessness βραβεύτηκε, επίσης, στο Φεστιβάλ Βενετίας με Αργυρό Λέοντα. Έχει σκηνοθετήσει εκατοντάδες μουσικά βίντεο, διαφημίσεις, καθώς και έναν μικρό αριθμό ταινιών μικρού μήκους, τρεις από τις οποίες προβάλλονται στο φετινό ISFFC
Swedish director Roy Andersson opened his own distinct chapter in European cinema. He is known for his ‘Living Trilogy’ including the films Songs from the Second Floor, You, the Living and A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence with the latter receiving the Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival. His next film, About Endlessness, was also awarded at Venice Film Festival winning the Silver Lion. He directed hundreds of music videos, commercials and a small number of short films three of which will be screened in this year’s edition.

Χρησιμοποιώντας τα χαρακτηριστικά του «ταμπλώ βιβάν» και ένα καστ από αντισυμβατικούς ηθοποιούς, ο Andersson εξετάζει τον μύθο γύρω από την επιδημία του AIDS. Andersson uses his trademark tableaux and unconventional actors to examine the myths surrounding the AIDS epidemic. Originally funded by the Swedish Board of Health and Welfare, the project was nearly terminated when the Board couldn’t accept Andersson’s unforgivingly bleak worldview.

An average man discusses his average life including his work as a real estate agent and his relationship with his father, eventually revealing secrets that cause his world to literally crumble. As he did in Songs from the Second Floor, Andersson creates meticulous compositions to reflect his character’s troubled emotional state.

Ως φοιτητής στη Σχολή Κινηματογράφου, ο Roy Andersson έκανε το σκηνοθετικό του ντεμπούτο το 1967 με την ασπρόμαυρη ταινία μικρού μήκους Visiting One’s Son, περιγράφοντας με εύστοχο και ευρηματικό τρόπο την επίσκεψη των γονιών ενός νεαρού στο δωμάτιό του στη φοιτητική εστία.
As a student at the Film School, Roy Andersson debuted in 1967 with the black and white short film Visiting One’s Son , an insightful account of how a young man receives a visit from his parents in his student flat.
